As good as journaling

So, I guess I'm about as faithful about blogging as I am about journaling.
The grass is coming in well in the front yard, and the summer was a blast. Kael was home and we did a lot of family bonding and hanging out at home. Kael also started a part time gig as a retirement planner and we are so busy now that school is back in that we hardly see him. Which is hard in some ways, but nice in others. We miss him when he's gone, but we love the time that we have together as a family.
Noah started taking dance classes and will start to take tap dance after Labor Day. He is so excited. He also starts pre-school the day after Labor Day. We're all excited about that. I love having the chance to watch him grow when he is experiencing things outside my (over) protective wings. He is so smart and wonderful.
Belle is starting to talk a lot. She is the meanest little sweetie in the whole world. She has her Daddy and her brother wrapped around her little finger and she knows it. Momma is a bit tougher to wrap, but she's pretty easy to push over.
Things with me are good. I'm surprised by how much I wanted to say on this blog today, and how little I ended up saying. As a wrap up, things are busy, things are changing, things are good.

BUSY!

Holy cow what a busy couple of weeks. Started by getting the front yard worked on last Saturday, May 7, 2011. Got some hand-me-down curbing in  that created 3 new flower beds, moved 8 tons of dirt to the flower beds and around the yard, planted grass, then had a BBQ with friends. This was apparently too much for the kids as they have both been teething or sick since.
Mother's day didn't start off too well as everyone was too tired from the previous day's work to get up, so I got up by myself and went to church by myself. My day was made when Kael walked in to sacrament meeting with Noah and Belle freshly bathed and in their Sunday best. Noah sang with the primary for the first time, and he was the darling kid who got ahold of the microphone while no one was watching (that being my job, not only as his mother, but also as the primary chorister) and shouted, "Heavenly Father" into it like he was starting a prayer. Could have been a lot worse.
After church, we went for a quick drive. While stopped at a red light, Kael was distracted by the beautiful Harley Davidson motorcycles that were parked next to us. The riders saw this poor guy in a white shirt and tie driving a minivan and ogling the bikes and did an amazing thing. Pointed over to me, and mouthed, "Happy Mother's Day!" It was awesome!
Monday, Noah was not feeling well so we got to have a movie day. Lots of fun, except for the part where he puked all over me, the couch, and one of my favorite blankets.
Tuesday was quite boring.
Wednesday was interesting. My mom lost her job, so while Noah had an extended play date with his cousin RaeAnna, Belle and I drove down bearing Diet Coke and M&M's to see if we could cheer her up. My mother is amazing! She was in quite good spirits and I found myself so enjoying the time with her, it was a little hard to pack up and go home when it was time to go pick up Noah.
Thursday was pretty boring.
Friday, we had fun planning the vegetable garden.
Saturday we ran a bunch of errands in the morning, and planted the garden in the afternoon. After getting the garden in, we had some friends come over to roast hot dogs and eat dutch oven potatoes cooked in the back yard. We have some amazing friends.
Funny story, while prepping the bacon to put in the potatoes, Kael had to step away for a moment. Noah took this opportunity to try some "ham". As I yanked the fully chewed bite of raw bacon out of his mouth, I wondered what the next couple of days might be like and if I ought to be afraid. Turns out, he was a bit tired, but never got sick, thank goodness. After Monday, I was not looking forward to being thrown up on again. While our friends were outside, the kids came in to go to bed and Noah and I ended up on the couch watching Tangled. I felt bad that I kind of ditched my own dinner party, but how long can I truly expect my son to want to spend a Saturday night watching movies with mom. It was a great time.
Sunday found me really tired and not fully having a desire to go to church, so I managed to find a sub for primary and went back to sleep. About 5 minutes later, Kael got a call from the elders quorum president saying that a power line in the parking lot of the church had been blown down and that services had been cancelled. Love it when the weather isn't feeling much like having me go to church either. Hoping to feel more motivated next week.
Wow, what a long post. Loving life today and hoping the next few weeks are a bit less eventful, but just as much fun.

Lots Going On

So, guess I've been pretty busy for the last couple of weeks. Spring cleaning has begun. I've made it through 3 of 6 rooms so far, but the hardest rooms are yet to come. I should be spending the couple of minutes I have today without kids (Thanks Aunt Janeea for the playdate!) working on the kitchen, but instead, I'm eating a toasted peanut butter and jelly sandwich and blogging. Yea for time wasting!
Yesterday Kael and I made greek yogurt. It was awesome! I love making things I use all the time from scratch. Today, we're going to use the waste whey from the yogurt to make two different kinds of cheese. Hopefully it will go as well as the yogurt!
As a moment in history, two days ago, on May 2, 2011 it was announced that the U.S. Navy Seals had been able to find and eliminate Osama Bin Laden from his "hideout" in Pakistan. I was getting ready for bed when the announcement was made. Kael logged on to Facebook to check things out before going to bed. This was how we heard the news. I have to say that my own personal reaction surprised me. I thought I would be ready to go out and dance in the streets, but instead, I could only feel sorrow that due to fear and hatred, another man had to die. I sorrow for those that feel a sense of loss at his killing, and I feel a sense of loss for those that had to kill in order to keep others safe. I look with excitement toward the day when we can all recognize the worth of life, and use peace instead of violence to solve differences.

Happy Easter

Amazing day today. Spent some great quality time with the family. We hauled the bikes and brand new bike trailer for the kids down to my mom's in North Salt Lake. Had a picnic with my mom, and my brother's family. After the picnic we went for a nice, long bike ride on the Legacy Trailway. About 7 miles all told. It was amazing. After the bike ride, it was back to the house for dessert and an egg hunt for the kids. Even Belle (15 months) got really into it. So much fun.
I am grateful today for the atonement, sacrifice, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. I will be forever grateful that He has paid the price for my sins, felt my pain, and loves and forgives my failings daily. His perfect example is the one I look to when in doubt, sadness, or pain. If I ever am able to show my appreciation, I will try to live up to His expectations of me.

Rough Morning

Feeling a bit off my game this morning. Ever have a situation where you do something, someone takes offense, and now you are unable to apologize, unable to fix the situation, and now you're mad because they assumed you meant to make them feel bad. THAT SUCKS!
Being mad about that situation makes me short tempered everywhere else in my life to, so I'm more likely to cause more trouble than fix anything. I think I'd like a do over.
On the plus side, my Easter Sugar Cookies are baked and I think I'll have time to decorate while kids are taking naps.
I need to remember than offense is taken, not given. That means I can choose to defuse any situation by choosing not to take offense. What a wonderful insight while typed, really hard to put into practice. Hopefully I can pull it off.

Good Day

Had a fun day today sans kids. Took them to my grandparents' place while I went to the dentist, and they decided to make it an all day long playdate. Had some time to relax by myself, get an awesome haircut, spend some time with my amazing husband before picking up some very tired, but very happy kids. Realized that I didn't really know what to do with my time alone, so I just cranked up the volume on the radio and enjoyed the moment. Love it when the unexpected is so much fun!

Dishes Moments 1

So . . . I know this is strange, but I do some of my best thinking while doing the dishes. That is provided the kids are asleep and there aren't so many dirty dishes that I'm trying not to let the piles collapse on the floor while scrubbing the ones filling the sink. Today was one of those blessed days where the mindless task led me to thinking about defining moments in my life. I decided that it is absolutely hilarious that we think we have to go find out who we are directly after high school.
So many people think that they are going to suddenly know everything about themselves the week they move into a dorm or walk into their first college classroom. Don't get me wrong, I learned a lot about myself and my priorities when I went to college, but I've learned more about myself in the last three years than I ever did while going to school.
I think that this phenomenon of self discovery is such a wonderful thing and that led me to think about two things that religious leaders around the globe caution people against: Pride and Jealousy. I realised that we are who we choose to be. If we are too proud of who we are and what we have, we lose the ability to live in the moment and roll with the punches life throws at us. When we envy what others have, we lose the ability to be happy with our current lot and we let that jealousy guide our decisions. Those guided decisions make us unable to see who we could have become on our own.
Today I pledge to be happy in the moment. To discover myself, be happy with who I have been, who I am, and who I will become. Joy in the Journey!
